On June 03, 2022, the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development Council (EFSD) approved the conclusion on the preliminary application of the Kyrgyz Republic for an investment loan from the EFSD resources to finance the project " Rehabilitation of the Aral-Suusamyr Road ", as well as the concept of the project. The total amount of the project is 120.76 million US dollars, the participation of the EFSD is 96.61 million US dollars.

The Aral-Suusamyr Road is part of the ongoing project for the construction and rehabilitation of sections of the North-South transport corridor. This corridor is an alternative for the Bishkek-Osh Road, the only one connecting the northern and southern regions of the country. The new North-South Transport Corridor will connect the CAREC-1 and CAREC-3 international transport corridors, which will promote regional economic integration.

Project goals:

  • Increasing the capacity of the road network in the North-South direction and improving road safety;
  • Creation of conditions for ensuring the unimpeded movement of freight and passenger transport along the Aral-Suusamyr Road, especially in winter;
  • Strengthening transport links between the northern and southern regions of the Kyrgyz Republic;
  • Promoting the socio-economic development of the Naryn and Talas regions, as well as remote areas of the Chui region.
