Within the framework of an extraordinary competition for grants from the funds of the EFSD for the purpose of combating and responding to the consequences of COVID-19 for the financing of social projects, the EFSD Council approved the financing of the project "Mobile Diagnostics COVID 19" in the Republic of Tajikistan (hereinafter referred to as the Project) in the amount of 3 million US dollars by a decision dated July 7, 2021.

The aim of the Project is to increase the level of provision of the necessary medical technical means of the Republic of Tajikistan to combat COVID-19 and respond to its consequences.

The project assumes:

  • creating conditions for prompt and timely detection of COVID-19;
  • increasing the availability of diagnostic services for the population of COVID-19;
  • expanding the coverage of COVID-19 testing;
  • assistance in the organization of epidemiological surveillance of cases of infection;
  • Reduction of morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19.

The project provides for the allocation of 3 million US dollars for the purchase of five mobile sanitary and epidemiological laboratories (MSEL), as well as about 100,000 tests for free COVID-19 tests among the population of Tajikistan. MSEL will be equipped with a set of life support systems that provide electricity, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water supply, as well as appropriate equipment. Mobile laboratories can be used as a separate laboratory, independent of medical institutions, in places of mass and limited congestion of people, at airports and train stations upon arrival of a large number of passengers. At the same time, this technique can be deployed on the territory of medical institutions as a basic or additional laboratory with the receipt of biomaterial from a medical institution.
