EFSD Executive Director participates in a meeting of the National Development Council under the President of Tajikistan

Dushanbe, 10 June 2024. Andrey Shirokov, Executive Director of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD), took part in a meeting of the National Development Council chaired by Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan.

The meeting was attended by members of Tajikistan’s Government, as well as heads and representatives from international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank.

The participants discussed the progress of Tajikistan’s 2030 Development Strategy. The strategy outlines the key areas of the nation’s development, aiming to foster confident and sustainable growth and unlock new economic development opportunities in the face of current challenges.

The EFSD is supporting the implementation of the strategy in various priority areas, including maintaining macroeconomic stability, enhancing institutional capacity, improving basic infrastructure in energy, transport, and water, and increasing the quality and accessibility of education and healthcare.

“Tajikistan is one of the founding states of the EFSD. The Fund supports national development priorities as outlined in the medium-term strategy. The EFSD’s portfolio of completed and ongoing projects in the country totals nearly US $500 million. These projects include the rehabilitation of the Nurek HPP, the modernization of irrigation systems, the Health Caravan program for disease prevention in hard-to-reach areas, budgetary support during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as support for social expenditures and socioeconomic reforms. Additionally, the Fund is considering projects worth over US $500 million,” said Andrey Shirokov.

The Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) is a regional financial arrangement totaling US $9 billion, established in 2009 by the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Tajikistan. The EFSD aims to promote economic and financial stability in its member states and support their sustainable development.
