Evgeny Vinokurov on energy prices

15 November 2021

Evgeny Vinokurov, Chief Economist of the EDB and the EFSD, shared his views on the origins and forecasts for energy pricing in an expert review article. “Natural gas prices have, apparently, already passed their peak levels, but are likely to remain at historically high ceilings for the next few months, before dropping as early as in 2022. The filling up of storage facilities in Europe will take some time. In these circumstances, it is highly likely, that gas market prices in Europe will remain high until the end of Q1 of 2022. In the future, these prices may substantially decline. The key factor of success could be progressive build-up of supply, including in the context of the launch of Nord Stream 2. The demand for gas will probably also gradually become stable," said Evgeny Vinokurov.
