About 80% of Armenia's agricultural production is carried out on irrigated lands, most of which are located in the Ararat Valley and foothill areas.
• The Mastara reservoir will help mitigate the problem of water scarcity and create water reserves for irrigation in the settlements of the Ararat Valley

Project description

Key project effects:



• Ensuring savings of about 1.9 million kWh of electricity annually

due to the abandonment of deep pumps and the transition to gravity irrigation



• Reducing the use of groundwater in the Ararat basin

(according to preliminary estimates, by 3.3 million m3/year)



• Increasing the water availability of actually irrigated land in the area

about 3,708 ha



• Increase in the area of irrigated land by 676 hectares

The project provides for the construction of a reservoir and related infrastructure, as well as the modernization of the on-farm irrigation network in 

Armavir region of the Republic of Armenia
